Paediatric Skeletal Development Assessment
Helping you understand how your child is growing, developing and moving.
Most scans look at one part of the body. EOS assesses the entire skeleton while your child is standing naturally.
It helps clinicians identify how the spine, pelvis, hips, knees and lower limbs work together as a whole.
Whether there are concerns about scoliosis, posture, leg length differences, walking patterns or skeletal development, EOS provides a detailed full-body assessment using ultra-low-dose imaging.

Full assessment
£1,200
What is included
- Full-body EOS scan while standing
- Postural Assessment
- 3D Spinal Assessment
- 3D Pelvic Assessment
- 3D Lower Limb Assessment
- Consultant Radiologist Report
- GP Screening and Referral Pathway
- Post-Scan GP Consultation
- Follow-Up Support
Children cannot self-refer for EOS imaging. Every child must first complete a GP screening and referral pathway before a scan can be considered.
Sometimes parents know something isn’t quite right
What you may have noticed
- One shoulder sits higher than the other.
- Concerns about your child’s posture.
- Differences in the way they stand, walk or move.
- You have been advised to monitor a spinal curve.
- Your child has seen other professionals, but questions remain.
Why one area is rarely the whole story
The body works as one connected system.
Looking at one area alone does not always provide the complete picture.
Clinical concerns
Common reasons children are referred for EOS imaging
Each of these is assessed within a single standing scan, rather than across several separate appointments.
Scoliosis
Monitoring spinal curves throughout growth and development.
Kyphosis
Assessing excessive rounding of the upper back.
Leg length difference
Understanding whether one leg is longer than the other and how this may affect posture.
Walking and gait concerns
Assessing how the lower limbs, pelvis and spine work together while standing.
Hip development concerns
Understanding hip position and how it may influence overall alignment.
Postural concerns
Assessing whole-body balance and posture.
Sports and activity concerns
Understanding skeletal alignment in active children and adolescents.

Why EOS is different
Most imaging looks at one area. EOS looks at the whole picture.
Traditional imaging often focuses on a specific body part.
EOS captures the entire skeletal system in a single standing, weight-bearing image — all while your child is standing naturally.
This provides information that may not always be visible when only one area is assessed in isolation.
- Position
- Standing, weight-bearing
- Coverage
- Head to feet, one pass
A single scan assesses
- Overall posture
- Spinal balance
- Pelvic position
- Hip alignment
- Knee alignment
- Lower limb mechanics
- Leg length differences
- How the parts interact with one another
The examination itself takes only seconds, and your child stays in an open scanner throughout.
One examination
Four detailed assessments, top to toe
The scanner sweeps from head to feet in a single pass. The reports follow the same path down the body.
Whole body
Postural Assessment
Evaluates overall balance and posture while standing naturally.
Spine
3D Spinal Assessment
Provides a three-dimensional assessment of spinal alignment and development.
Pelvis
3D Pelvic Assessment
Assesses pelvic position and its relationship with the spine and lower limbs.
Lower limbs
3D Lower Limb Assessment
Evaluates leg length, hip position, knee alignment and lower limb relationships.
Together these assessments provide a comprehensive picture of skeletal development and alignment.
Dose matters
Low radiation matters for children
EOS uses significantly less radiation than many conventional imaging methods, while still producing a highly detailed full-body standing assessment.
Some childhood conditions need monitoring over time. That makes a low dose particularly valuable when clinicians follow growth, development and alignment throughout childhood and adolescence.
After the scan

Safeguarding
Every child is assessed before imaging
Unlike adult patients, children cannot be directly booked for EOS imaging. Every child must first complete a clinical screening pathway before a referral can be issued.
This helps ensure that any imaging performed is clinically appropriate and in the child’s best interests, and that previous investigations, current concerns and relevant clinical information are reviewed before proceeding.
Who can refer your child
- General Practitioner, including online GP services
- Consultant Orthopaedic or Spinal Surgeon, including Paediatric Orthopaedics
- Paediatric Physiotherapists
If you don’t currently have a referrer, you can book an appointment with an online GP who can review your child’s case and, where appropriate, provide a referral.
Our duty of care
We only proceed with a scan when it is suitable for the patient and all eligibility criteria are met. This is a matter of clinical responsibility and ethics, not convenience. If a different test would better answer the clinical question, we will guide you accordingly.
The pathway
How the process works
Five steps, in order. Imaging only takes place after step three.
- 1
Paediatric Pre-GP Screening Consultation
Meet with a member of the ScanAlign team to discuss your child’s concerns, symptoms, medical history and previous investigations.
- 2
Paediatric GP Screening Consultation
A GP will review the information provided and assess the clinical concerns.
- 3
Clinical Review and Referral Assessment
The GP will determine whether EOS imaging is clinically appropriate and provide a referral where justified.
- 4
EOS Full-Body Scan at Harley Street
If approved, your child will attend for an EOS full-body weight-bearing scan. The examination takes only seconds and captures the entire skeletal system while standing naturally.
- 5
Results, Consultation and Guidance
You will receive the EOS assessment reports, Consultant Radiologist Report and a post-scan GP consultation to discuss the findings and any recommended next steps.

Parent FAQs
Clear answers to common questions from parents and guardians about paediatric EOS imaging, appointment preparation, results and next steps.
EOS imaging can be suitable for children and young people who need assessment of their spine, pelvis or lower-limb alignment. Every child is reviewed before the scan to confirm that EOS is clinically appropriate for their individual needs.
Looking for greater clarity about your child’s skeletal development?
Whether you are concerned about scoliosis, posture, walking patterns, leg length differences or overall skeletal development, the first step is a Paediatric Pre-GP Screening Consultation. Our team will guide you through the appropriate clinical pathway and arrange GP assessment before any imaging is considered.
